Translation and editing need more than just language skills: They need intuition, creativity and respect for someone else’s vision, as well as varied interests and a broad general knowledge. Most of us are able to translate the rough contents of a text, but if you want believable dialogues, convincing arguments and an enjoyable reading experience, you need more patience and sensibility.
Putting the final touches on a text or making a story accessible to new audiences carry with them a responsibility that should not be underestimated. This is why I strive to immerse myself in any text I edit or translate, so I can preserve their core arguments and implications as well as the emotions and images they evoke. I’m always happy to explore new worlds, be they academic texts, science fiction or everyday love stories.
